요즘 필리핀 사람들의 SNS를 뜨겁게 달구고 있는 사건 하나. 세부 라푸라푸 시티에 있는 유명 리조트인 플랜테이션 베이 리조트 & 스파(Plantation Bay Resort and Spa)에서 있었다는 일이다.
사건은 자폐증을 앓고 있는 6살된 아이를 둔 가족이 플랜테이션베이 리조트로 여행을 떠나면서 시작된다. 즐거운 가족 여행의 날, 멋진 바다 풍경이 새로웠던지 아이는 기쁨의 비명을 질렀다. 아이 엄마야 아이가 어떤 마음으로 소리를 지르는지 알고 있을 터이니 익숙한 일이었을지 모르지만, 리조트 직원이 듣기에는 꽤 소리가 컸나보다. 아이 엄마는 인명구조 요원에게 조용히 하라는 지시를 받기 전까지만 해도 그 정도의 소음은 괜찮다고 생각했다지만, 괴성을 들은 인명구조 요원은 손님에게 달려가서 아이가 조용히 할 수 있도록 해달라고 이야기를 했다. 아이 엄마는 아이가 자폐증을 앓고 있고, 특별한 도움이 필요한 아이라서 흥분하거나 행복하면 비명을 지른다”고 설명했지만, 리조트 직원의 요청으로 강제로 수영장 구역을 떠나야 했다.
